Brooke Christa Shields (born May 31, 1965) is an American actress and model. When she was 12, she was a child model. She was praised by critics for her part in Louis Malle's 1978 film Pretty Baby (1978). She continued modeling into her teens and starred in numerous dramas during the 1980s, such as The Blue Lagoon (1980) and Franco Zeffirelli’s Endless Love (1981). In 1983 Shields decided to end her modeling career to study at Princeton University where she received a bachelor's in Romance Languages. Shields started acting again in the 1990s and appeared in minor role in movies. She also appeared in the NBC sitcoms Suddenly Susan (1996-202000), which was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards. Lipstick Jungle (2008-2009) was her second nomination. Shields was back on NBC in 2017 and had the role of a regular Law & Order: Special Victims unit character in the 19th season of the show. She is the daughter of Teri Shields, actress and model, and Frank Shields, a businessman (1941-2003). According to William Addams Reitwiesner's research, Shields is related to a number noble families from Italy specifically from Genoa as well as Rome. These are namely (in chronological order of descent from 1355 to 1965) the Gattilusi-Palaiologos-Savoy, Grimaldi, Imperiali, Carafa, Doria, Doria-Pamphili-Landi, Chigi-Albani, and Torlonia dynasties. Her paternal grandmother was Italian noblewoman Marina Torlonia di Zivitella-Cesi who was the daughter of an Italian prince and an American socialite. Her great-uncle was Italian nobleman Alessandro Torlonia, the husband of Infanta Beatriz of Spain.When Teri announced that she was expecting, Frank's family offered her a sum of money to terminate the pregnancy.
