April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball star in the US, is among a select group of women who have been awarded medals at several Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to net her third medal with fellow first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. But more than that, Ross will be aiming for the first Olympic gold. At 39, this could be her last chance to take home the Olympic gold. However, she's convinced that top prizes are within reach. If we do our top or perform well, I think we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross declared on NBC Boston. Therefore, I'm hoping to have the chance too. Ross was born in the city of Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents and her sister were residents in the area. She went on to compete in many sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and the track as well as her volleyball skills in the indoors as a prep athlete. She stood out however during this game. In her college volleyball season as per her college biography she played as an outside-hitter, middle blocker and setter. In recognition of her work she was awarded an 1999 Gatorade International Player of the year in Circle of Champions. Her volleyball skills also won her an Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Ross has been playing with Klineman since 2017. However, Ross's beach game was established well before the year. In reality, she was a winner of multiple major tournaments in the past with two different partners. one of whom is the volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years between 2007 and 2013. She also coached Klineman and herself. Together with Kessy Ross was awarded a World Title in 2009 when she competed internationally. The duo would go into winning a silver in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor took home gold ahead of them. Ross Jennings was Walsh Jennings partner in fate as Maytreanor resigned. Together, they won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross played for the Trojans of USC in her college years before becoming a professional. Her time at USC was impressive. As a freshman in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year accolades. She also was also an All-American. The Trojans could also make it to the Final Four with her help. In her sophomore year, she was devastated by a personal setback, but she was able to repeat as an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons, she took the Trojans up the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. She was a fantastic volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross did not get to see Ross achieve beach volleyball's top stage. Ross's mother died of breast cancer when she was a sophomore at USC. Her mother is still very dearly. Margie has inspired her throughout her life, as well as on the beaches.
